The purpose of the Children’s Program is twofold: to provide a safe place in a pleasant atmosphere for children while their parents attend the downstairs meeting, and to give children the opportunity to explore humanist values within a planned, but flexible, curriculum.
The Children’s Program philosophy includes:
-
• encouraging the asking of questions in a safe, non-judgmental atmosphere;
-
• teaching and using critical thinking skills, which includes familiarity with the scientific method; and
-
• practicing humanist values (e.g., empathy, cooperation, curiosity, responsibility) within the classroom.
The curriculum includes topics such as world cultures, wonders of nature, stories of creation, stages of life, conflict resolution, problem solving, ethics, living with disabilities, various family models, and logic.
