About Us

We are a community of freethinkers in the Portland, Oregon metro area, fostering camaraderie, lifelong learning, personal growth, and collective action, unfettered by supernatural beliefs or religious dogma.

We engage in weekly presentations and group discussions every Sunday morning at Friendly House, a community center at NW Thurman and 26th,  We also offer a comprehensive Children's Program with an accredited teacher so that parents can go to the Sunday presentations or engage in group discussions, knowing their children are learning life skills without dogma.   We offer social gatherings,  cultural activities, nature excursions, self help and community outreach.

We promote social justice,  advancing our ideals of equity and tolerance. We support the Transition Projects, an avenue for people coming in off the street, and Sisters of the Road, for the truly homeless.  Throughout the year, our community of freethinkers helps out at the Sunshine Division, SOLV, and Oregon Food Bank.  We have marched for peace, gay rights, and separation of church and state.  We were a major contributor to the Portland Humanist Film Festival in 2010, and now in 2011.

We believe in applying reason, science, and free inquiry to solving human problem, advocating freedom, happiness, and progress for all humanity; using the democratic process to seek justice and fairness in all societies; supporting moral principles that have been validated by consequences; accepting kinship with the natural world; holding humans responsible for human destiny; seeking natural rather than supernatural explanations.
