Meetups and Online Discussion
Even before you become an HGP member, you can join us for some activities! In addition to our open Sunday morning programs, you can join our Humanists of Greater Portland Meetup (HGP-M) for activities at different times and places, including some of those described below. Get to know us this way, and when you become an Official HGP member, we also have online discussions at the Humanist Talk Yahoo! group, and the latest Humanist news via our Portland Humanists Yahoo! group.

Social Gatherings (Meetups and online)
After our weekly meetings, many of us get together for lunch to discuss the talk. Members also offer their homes about once a month for potluck suppers, and on one Wednesday evening each month (“Vinnie’s night”), we fill several tables at a local eatery.

Cultural Activities
HGP Book Club meets monthly to discuss seminal fiction and non-fiction selections. Members who prefer meeting in the evening have formed a second book club. Culture Vultures alerts members of group outings to live theater, film showings, concerts, and art exhibits. We display selected humanist books at local libraries.

Enjoying Nature
Members often organize periodic hikes in the Portland area. Further afield, several HGP’ers booked a cruise up Alaska’s Inner Passage, and have had several camp-outs.
Community Involvement

We identify and support (through advertising, member contributions, or volunteer work) local nonprofit organizations and charities that reflect our values, like Oregon Public Broadcasting, Transition Projects, Sisters of the Road, Oregon Food Bank, Mercy Corps, and Coalition for a Livable Future.
