What triggered the explosion and what maintains it? Surprises loom! Orians is Professor Emeritus of Biology, University of Washington. He has served as its Director of Environmental Studies. He was elected to the National Academy of Sciences in 1989 and to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in 1990. His most intensive research area has been behavioral ecology.
Presentation by Kerry Tymchuk about the Oregon Historical Society which was founded in 1898. Mr. Tymchuk is its Executive Director. He is a graduate of Willamette University College of Law and is a four-time champion on the television game show Jeopardy. He has been recognized by the Oregon Business Industry in 2018 as “Oregon Statesman of the Year.”
Presentation by Martin Hart-Landsberg highlighting the importance of unions, the policies responsible for the decline in union membership; the consequences for working people, and signs of the rebirth of an activist labor movement. Hart-Landsberg is Professor Emeritus of Economics at Lewis & Clark College, Portland, Oregon. His areas of teaching and research include political economy, economic development, international economics, and the political economy of East Asia.
Presentation by Eva Guggemos. Hundreds of unmarked graves of Native children have been discovered at Catholic boarding schools in Canada and in the United States. This talk describes the work to find the names, causes of death, and burial locations of students who died in the custody of Oregon’s Indian Schools. Eva Guggemos is Associate Professor at Pacific University. She has an M.A. in History from Yale University. She oversees the archives collections, and heads up a large number of digital projects relating to local history.
