Border Walls and the Mexico Border

Presentation by Laurie Mercier. The mostly negative attention that the U.S. media and politicians have devoted to migrants attempting to cross the southern U.S. border is devoid of historical context. In this talk, Professor Mercier addresses the long, winding, contradictory history of U.S. immigration policies and the ways the border has been conceived and immigration perceived. Mercier teaches courses on the history of immigration, women, and labor at Washington State University Vancouver.
