Oregon's Poet Laureate Program

Paulann Peterson

Oregon's Poet Laureate program is a collaborative project of the state's five cultural partners: Oregon Arts Commission, Oregon
Heritage Commission, Oregon Historical Society, Oregon Humanities, and State Historic Preservation Office, with funding from the
Oregon Cultural Trust. Paulann Peterson has given readings in hundreds of spots from Powell's in Portland to Omsania University in India, from Ross Ragland Theater in Klamath Falls to the Museum Hotel in Central Turkey, and in virtually every nook and cranny of Oregon. Her poetry is featured on Trimet public transportation as part of Poetry in Motion. She frequently teaches workshops for colleges, high schools, libraries and writers' organizations. Jack Grauer, long-time explorer and author on Oregon natural sites, will explain some history of the Fossil Beds located in Eastern Oregon along with a power point presentation showing some of the stunning scenery especially of the Painted Hills.

Anti-Semitic Symbols in the Christian Tradition

Sarah Sanders presentation is an artifact study of symbols (religious terms, religious art, and religious doctrine) within the Christian tradition that, upon examination, are inherently anti-Semitic, though not perhaps appearing so at first look. This research was done for her Capstone research project (the formal name for the senior project process that students undergo at PLU to graduate). She also discusses how she plans to use her primary research theory to perform interfaith conflict work in the future.
